Scouting at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Updated September 2026)

Building Character, Leadership, Faith & Service Since 1918

For more than a century, Scouting has been part of the tradition of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem. Today, that tradition is thriving through Cub Scout Pack 910 and an exciting new chapter—the reactivation of Troop 910.

Together, Pack 910 and Troop 910 provide young people and their families with opportunities for adventure, friendship, leadership, service, personal growth, and fun—all grounded in the timeless values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

St. Paul’s is proud to support Scouting not only as a ministry to our own parish families, but also as an important outreach to families throughout Winston-Salem and the surrounding community.

A New Era of Scouting

In February 2025, the organization generations of Americans knew as the Boy Scouts of America officially became Scouting America.

The new name reflects the Scouting movement of today—one that welcomes young people and families while remaining firmly committed to the principles that have guided Scouting for more than a century.

The mission remains clear: to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Scouting develops young people through:

• Character and personal responsibility

• Leadership development

• Citizenship and community service

• Outdoor adventure and appreciation of nature

• Mental and physical fitness

• Teamwork and friendship

• Spiritual growth and reverence

• Learning practical skills and discovering new interests

At St. Paul’s, we are proud to carry these traditions forward for a new generation.

Troop 910 is back!

This marks an exciting milestone for Scouting at St. Paul’s with the reactivation of historic Troop 910.

Troop 910 currently has 12 Scouts, and we look forward to growing the Troop and welcoming a new generation of young people into the Scouting tradition.

The history behind Troop 910 makes this new beginning particularly meaningful. Troop 910 traces its charter to April 17, 1918, making it one of North Carolina’s historic Scouting troops.

More than a century later, its story continues.

Troop 910 builds upon the foundation young people develop in Cub Scouting while giving Scouts increasing responsibility for their own program. Scouting at the troop level is intentionally youth-led. Scouts learn leadership by leading, planning meetings, organizing activities, working together as patrols, solving problems, serving their community, and helping one another succeed.

Adult leaders provide coaching, mentoring, guidance, and a safe environment, but the Scouts increasingly take responsibility for making the program their own.

Through Troop 910, Scouts have opportunities to:

• Camp, hike and experience outdoors

• Develop practical outdoor and life skills

• Participating in community service

• Earn merit badges and explore new interests

• Build confidence and independence

• Practice teamwork and problem-solving

• Developing meaningful leadership skills

• Attend summer camp and other Scouting adventures

• Grow spiritually and live the values of the Scout Oath and Law

• Progress through Scouting’s ranks, including the opportunity to earn the rank of Eagle Scout

The goal isn't simply to earn badges or advance in rank. It is to help prepare young people to become capable, compassionate and principled leaders in their families, schools, churches, workplaces and communities.

With approximately 75 Cub Scouts, Pack 910 is an active and growing part of the St. Paul’s community.

Cub Scouting welcomes boys and girls from kindergarten through fifth grade and gives children an opportunity to learn, explore, make friends, serve others, and build confidence while having a tremendous amount of fun.

Pack 910 brings Scouting to life through age-appropriate adventures, outdoor activities, family events, service projects, camping, hiking, the Pinewood Derby, and many other experiences throughout the year.

Through their adventures, Cub Scouts learn what it means to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Just as importantly, Pack 910 is a family experience. Parents and guardians play an important role in helping our Scouts learn, grow, explore, and create memories that can last a lifetime.

Our goal is simple: to help every Cub Scout have fun while becoming a more confident, responsible, caring, and capable young person.
